At last the wait is over as the eve of tonight’s game against our opponents Leicester City I will finally get to see for the first time and after 14 months of slog the new book, TOP BOY’S. For you Hammer’s fans I can tell you the book feature’s two West Ham chapter contributions. One is one of the front cover faces from the ICF book Congratulations which is that of Bunter from the famous TBF. The other is a remarkable character really when you realise he was involved at the sharp end of matters when aged just 10. That’s little Jela and he gives today’s generation a real insight into the mind of an original Under-Five. While I didn’t know until recently that one of Bunter’s legendary scrapes became a ‘Do you know what happened next?’ On A Question of Sport. This sequel book to Terrace Legends that contained the now famous quote in the Bill Gardner chapter that every firm was two-bob had put me under pressure to push the boat in Top Boys, and as a result I think I have interviewed half the nation’s banning order Top Thirty. 24 faces were sought and tracked down to all come together in a no holds barred book to reveal hard-hitting, unflinching honest testament to life with some of the toughest firms from those that had been there and had it with the best of them. Real characters is the word I use and I got them from Aberdeen, Ajax, Villa, Brum, Cambridge, Chelsea, CSKA, Rangers, Halifax, Hartlepool, hull, Leicester, Luton, Man City, Man Utd, Forest, Oldham, Plymouth, Qpr, Pompey, Rotherham, Wednesday and WBA. A few unlikely shouts but read it and you will find it is the smaller clubs that have a right tear-up more often than the obvious big name firms. Little is left to the imagination in their accounts, the legendary fights; the extreme violence may well shock some of you normals. But that said there is a great deal of gallows humour in their recollections that will have you in stitches believe me. TOP BOY’S officially out 25th March but you can start receiving advance signed copies from this sight and you can also place orders for the Bill Gardner biography (you know-fucking mustard but not out to early may). Staying with the books the Cockney Rejects have a big year ahead and a lot of you guys and particular since that invitation gig they played in the East End last year have been asking when will they play again. Well I can say they have been holding off all gigs while they recorded a new album and Jeff ‘Stinky’ Turner completes his own biography which is being written with Garry bushel. Book near finished and I understand Morrissey has done the book’s foreword and book will come out end of August. With a big live gig open to all planned for the Circus Tavern possibly September 2nd (Unconfirmed). More news on Yank/Hooligans is that West Ham United really upset and angry the film title The Yank has now been dropped by Universal in favour of Hooligans across the board. Part of the film features scenes filmed at the club ground and obviously that took money and contracts for that permission so one wonders why the big stink. But Lord of the Rings v Return of the ICF and World Premier at West Ham football club is not exactly what was hoped for folks. As we go to print Hooligans has just cleaned swept all the main awards at the South by South-west Film Festival and this film could end up going worldwide. Fair play to those involved and you can get a peep at film’s trailer on the DougieBrimson.com website. Finally when they talk about the beautiful game they surely weren’t including this league. Of late the boys have been coming up with a Worst Ham Utd X1 and we’ve had the rows on that……..McAlister, Brush, Hilton, Strodder, G Charles, Minto, Dumitrescu, Gordon, Boogers, Hales, Sandy fucking Clark, sub: Radford. Lastly all those that text me after spoting this miserable bastard in the excellent Julie Waters film Ahead of the Class, shown on ITV last month and yes I confess and I also missed it but do tell me if they show more than me arm, leg, hand or back of head in The Bill on Wednesday (murderer).
